Artist Bio
Xinran is a Multi-Media Artist, born in China, raised globally. she is currently pursuing an MFA degree from CCA. Her work spans painting, animated video, immersive experiences, and the development of emerging technologies. Previously, Xinran worked as a technical artist at several different companies, her current practice focuses on play and AI technology.
Artist Statement
What is the relationship between our physical body and our digital one? What kind of new social interactions can be explored while using digital platforms? In Xinran's most recent artworks she explores AI facial recognition systems and examines our own ability to modify the results of the AI analysis by utilizing a performative behavior. Xinran’s goal is to create a space where questions can be asked, and conversions can take place. Her artworks usually provoke conversations regarding identity transformation, social roles, role-playing, identity tourism, cultural appropriation, virtual communities, machine-based surveillance, recognition, and classification.
